A Time for Change

If you’ve been here before, you’ll notice the old website is gone!

I figured it was time for a change (and apparently a giant image of my head). We approach a new season, and with it new challenges and definitely a new reality given the past couple of years living in a Covid-19 world. I believe we have all evolved (or devolved, if traffic in downtown Toronto is any indication) and become something different. I, for one, have enjoyed working from home and wearing jeans all day! The way we work now has forever changed, and I believe a great many people will never step foot in an office again. It’s a good change. Work/life balance has improved for so many that going back to commuting and all the stresses that come along with that would be a hard sell.

If anything, the pandemic has given me more appreciation for the way we interact with each other. Gone are firm handshakes and hugging your friends in greeting. I have to say that hugging has been the hardest thing I’ve had to give up and I confess that I still hug certain (fully-vaccinated) people in my life. We still have to live, after all.

Creativity is on the rise, and I’ve been working hard with MPO ensembles for the upcoming Winterlude 8 project. I have the string ensemble sorted out, and in a couple of weeks the brass ensemble will wrap up with filming in Milton. Then the hard work begins! What a joy it has been to interact with the musicians again. It has been 18 months since we had our last rehearsal, and even longer since our last concert. The future is still uncertain, but virtual projects will get us through it and allow our creativity to shine.

So much to look forward to!
